Un dato allarmante emerge dall’azienda ospedaliera dell’Università di Padova: ogni settimana almeno un bambino risulta positivo a sostanze stupefacenti. La fonte di esposizione? Spesso mamma e papà. Come accade per il fumo passivo, anche la cocaina, volatile e adesiva, si deposita su vestiti, mani e volti, venendo trasmessa ai più piccoli attraverso semplici gesti quotidiani come preparare la pappa o dare un bacio.
Secondo la dottoressa Melissa Rosa Rizzotto, responsabile del Centro per la diagnostica del Bambino maltrattato, l’aumento dell’uso di droghe dopo la pandemia di Covid-19 sta trasformando l’esposizione dei minori in un’emergenza sanitaria.
“Quando un bambino risulta positivo a una determinata sostanza, spesso i genitori lo sono per la stessa – spiega la dottoressa a Il Gazzettino – e non si tratta solo di episodi sporadici, ma talvolta di situazioni croniche”.
Dal 2007, anno della sua nascita, il Centro ha seguito oltre 1.600 famiglie per casi di maltrattamento, trascuratezza grave e abuso. Il 15% dei pazienti arriva per esposizione a sostanze stupefacenti.
La contaminazione passiva da cocaina può compromettere organi vitali come cuore, reni e cervello, con sintomi che vanno da tachicardia e crisi epilettiche a scosse degli arti superiori. Nel Padovano si registrano circa 50 nuovi casi positivi all’anno, la maggior parte sotto i 3 anni. L’80% dei bambini è positivo alla cocaina, talvolta associata a oppiacei, metadone, alcol o farmaci. Fortunatamente, i casi di somministrazione intenzionale da parte dei genitori sono rari. Più spesso si tratta di contaminazione domestica o ingestione accidentale.
“Basta una minima dose per causare effetti devastanti in corpi così piccoli – conclude Rizzotto – anche perché la cocaina rimane in circolo anche 15 giorni in un corpicino di pochi chili”.
