La Tesla Model Y è l’auto più venduta in Europa: con quasi 250 mila immatricolazioni nel 2023, secondo il centro-studi Inovev, il suv elettrico del costruttore statunitense ha detronizzato la Peugeot 208 e superato la Dacia Sandero e la Volkswagen T-Roc. In Italia, invece, la Fiat Panda ha mantenuto salda la guida della classifica con 102.625 unità. La conquista dello scettro europeo da parte di Tesla racconta però anche dello sconvolgimento in atto nelle gerarchie dell’industria dell’auto, causato dall’avvento dell’elettrico. L’arrivo di nuovi costruttori dagli Stati Uniti e, più di recente, dalla Cina rappresenta una sfida epocale per le case del Vecchio Continente. Seppur ancor modesta, infatti, la quota di mercato dei gruppi cinesi è in rapida ascesa. MG, Byd, Chery e le altre case del Dragone hanno venduto oltre 353 mila vetture in Europa, il 75% in più rispetto all’anno precedente: con quasi 70 mila immatricolazioni, l’Italia è stato il secondo mercato per le auto cinesi dopo il Regno Unito. Grazie alle politiche di prezzo aggressive sulla gamma elettrica, dazi permettendo, Inovev prevede che la campagna cinese riuscirà a occupare ulteriori spazi in Europa nel 2024. L’avanzata cinese dipenderà probabilmente anche dalla velocità con cui si diffonderà l’elettrico in Europa. Più rapida sarà l’adozione, più è probabile che le vetture a basso costo cinesi conquistino quote di mercato; viceversa, se la transizione sarà graduale, le case europee potrebbero aver tempo di reagire e sviluppare i loro modelli alla spina a prezzi competitivi. Sempre che, nel frattempo, le elezioni europee non portino a un ripensamento del termine al 2035 fissato per le vendite di benzina e diesel. Quest’ultima alimentazione, peraltro, pare ormai avviata a un declino inarrestabile: in scia allo scandalo dieselegate, il gasolio ha perso progressivamente quote di mercato in Europa e nel 2023 ha rappresentato solo il 12% delle vendite, la quota più bassa da decenni. In Francia, dove in alcuni anni il diesel è arrivato a superare il 70% delle immatricolazioni, nel 2023 si è fermato al 10%.
