TAROCCHI GRATIS NEWSUn nuovo studio, pubblicato su “The Quarterly Journal of Economics” a guida di Olivia Natan, ricercatrice di marketing presso la Haas School of Business, smonta la presunta fondatezza empirica di buona parte dei “trucchi”, utilizzati da diversi consumatori per individuare il biglietto aereo più conveniente.
Con quattro colleghi – Ali Hortaçsu e Timothy Schwieg dell’Università di Chicago, Kevin Williams di Yale e Hayden Parsley dell’Università del Texas ad Austin – la Natan ha esaminato in modo approfondito la struttura e i processi alla base del modo in cui vengono fissati i prezzi in una delle principali compagnie aeree statunitensi. Il sistema da lei scoperto, che è rappresentativo di quello in uso presso le compagnie aeree di tutto il mondo, è sorprendentemente in contrasto con ciò che la maggior parte degli economisti si aspetterebbe – e la maggior parte dei consumatori presume.
“All’inizio non sapevamo come razionalizzare le cose che vedevamo”, dice. I viaggiatori tendono a fare scelte che bilanciano comodità e prezzo: il prezzo di un volo potrebbe spingere le persone a selezionare un volo leggermente meno comodo ma più economico. “Ma le compagnie aeree non prendono in considerazione questo tipo di sostituzione”, dice la Natan.
Pensano ai prezzi dei posti su ogni singolo volo piuttosto che al totale dei posti venduti in un giorno, “anche se cambiare il prezzo su un volo influenzerà il modo in cui le persone valutano tutte le loro opzioni di volo”. Inoltre – ancora più sorprendente – le compagnie aeree non incorporano i prezzi dei loro concorrenti nei loro sistemi di fissazione automatizzata dei prezzi. In genere, se una compagnia aerea riducesse i prezzi, ci si aspetterebbe che anche altre aziende facessero lo stesso. Ma invece tendenzialmente non lo fanno”.
Questo comportamento non ortodosso, spiega la Natan, “è il risultato di una specifica euristica dei prezzi – o scorciatoia decisionale – che le compagnie aeree utilizzano chiamata Expected Marginal Seat Revenue-b, o EMSRb. L’uso dell’EMSRb, mostrano i ricercatori, si traduce in un altro risultato che i consumatori potrebbero non aspettarsi”.
Nonostante ciò che appare quando si cercano voli, le compagnie aeree hanno in realtà un numero fisso e relativamente piccolo di prezzi che assegnano ai biglietti su ciascun volo. Potrebbero vendere i primi 30 biglietti Economy al prezzo più basso, poi i successivi 30 biglietti al successivo prezzo possibile, che ha un grande scarto col precedente, e così via.
Queste e altre inusuali caratteristiche del sistema tariffario delle compagnie aeree rendono inutili i vari “trucchi”, come acquistare il biglietto aereo di martedì o usare una VPN, diffusi tra una parte dei consumatori. L’unica cosa chiara è che è saggio non aspettare l’ultimo minuto. “Quello che posso dire è che i prezzi aumentano in modo significativo 21, 14 e 7 giorni prima del volo”, afferma la Natan. “Compra il tuo biglietto prima di allora.”CONTINUA A LEGGERE SU TAROCCHI GRATIS
