Cos’è, gli effetti
Il fentanyl viene assunto tramite iniezione endovenosa, cerotti transdermici, pastiglie transmucose orali e compresse vestibolari. La polvere di fentanyl o i cerotti vengono anche fumati o assunti per via intranasale (sniffati), spiega la Direzione centrale per i servizi antidroga sul proprio sito. Ha effetti psicoattivi, “è un analgesico che agisce principalmente sul recettore μ-oppiaceo. Oltre alla sua azione analgesica, il fentanyl provoca stordimento ed euforia, quest’ultima meno marcata rispetto all’eroina e alla morfina”.
Il fenomeno fentanyl in Usa e in Italia
Negli Usa si stima – secondo uno studio pubblicato ‘Addiction’ – che la proporzione di decessi attribuibili al fentanyl è aumentata più di 50 volte dal 2010, passando dallo 0,6% (235 decessi) nel 2010 al 32,3% (34.429 decessi) nel 2021. Una escalation che sta preoccupando le autorità americane, già l’amministrazione Trump aveva lanciato una offensiva contro la diffusione di questa molecola. L’overdose da fentanyl “comporta una depressione respiratoria che può regredire con il naloxone. Può anche subentrare una morte improvvisa per arresto cardiaco o grave reazione anafilattica”, avverte la Direzione centrale per i servizi antidroga. Il fentanyl arriva dopo l’allarme sull’abuso di ossicodone, che sempre negli Usa ha causato dipendenza e decessi.
Il fenomeno ha acceso le sirene di Hollywood anche dopo i decessi di star come Prince e il rapper Mac Miller. Netflix ha prodotto ‘Painkiller’ che racconta l’epidemia di oppiacei in America. Sempre su Netflix è uscito ‘Pain Hustlers – Il business del dolore’ con Emily Blunt e Chris Evans, che accende i riflettori sulle armi usate nel nuovo millennio dall’industria farmaceutica per promuovere prima l’ossicodone e poi sostanze ancora più potenti come il fentanyl. La piattaforma Hulu ha affrontato il tema nel 2021 con ‘Dopesick’, con Michael Keaton, esaminando il modo in cui un’azienda ha causato l’epidemia di dipendenza e assuefazione da oppioidi.
